Keep Your Home Odour Free: 5 Hacks For Pet Parents

We all love having pets around the house, and most of the time, pets are a cute addition to the home. However, pet urine is undeniably unpleasant and it can create a strong bad odour within your home which does not only affect you but others as well.

Pet owners know that pets have a personality and a scent all their own. We love that unique smell of our dog or cat, but sometimes it can get a bit overbearing. Here are some tips to help keep your home smelling fresh and clean with pets.

Place their food bowl outside:

Do you feed your dog in the kitchen, especially near the garbage? If so, you may be inviting unwanted smells in your home. Try switching to feeding them in another room or outside where possible.

Pet beds

Wash pet beds, blankets and clothes often, or vacuum them regularly to remove dirt and odour from hair, dander and saliva.

Pet wipes

If your pet doesn't like being bathed regularly, consider using other methods to remove odour such as pet wipes or dry shampoo sprays. These can remove odours and keep your pet's coat smelling fresh between baths.

Air fresheners:

Use air fresheners, which are safe around pets, to keep any bad smells away. You can also use natural remedies like baking soda or coffee beans to absorb odours in the house. The Better Home’s air freshener cards are a great eco-friendly way to keep bad odour at bay.

Vinegar:

Vinegar is a natural cleaning solution that can help neutralize pet odours. Mix one-part white vinegar with three parts water in a spray bottle and spray it on carpets and furniture to help remove pet odours. Vinegar can also be used on hard floors, windows and walls. Be sure to test an inconspicuous area first to make sure it doesn’t discolour your fabrics or flooring.
